ABOUT US

INTRODUCTION

During the first year of life a child’s brain doubles in size and by age 5 has reached 90% of its adult size.

A child’s experiences in these early years directly affects how the brain develops, with a long-term impact on the child’s health and ability to learn and succeed in school and life. The seeds of a healthy, successful life and the ability to succeed in school are planted and flourish in these early foundational years.

Africa is burdened with high levels of poverty, inequality and unemployment as well as unequal levels of service delivery and public provision of infrastructure. Currently poverty serves as a barrier to opportunities and resources which are essential to enhance sustainable human development. Poverty and the associated social problems prevent children from accessing education, health, welfare, and future employment opportunities. It is children from poor homes who are least likely to be able to access early childhood learning due to the inability to afford the fees of those centres and are therefore at a considerable disadvantage as they journey toward adulthood. The longer a child remains without the right input, the more difficult it becomes to regain what has been lost.

Nurturing essential life skills early in life is key to a strong learning ethic and foundation. When children are given sufficient time, input and opportunities to build strong foundations with respect to skill development, it paves the way to a future where they can be critical, creative thinkers and doers and make meaningful contributions to society.

ABOUT US

We are a small group of Christians who have seen the difficulties and inequalities faced by the poor in Cape Town and who desire to demonstrate the love of God by doing something about it. The possible motivations for helping others are as manifold as we are, but if we are not driven first and foremost by love for God and gratitude for His grace, we probably will not have the long-term stamina, passion, or discipline needed to help without hurting.

OBJECTIVES

•To honour God by caring for and valuing disadvantaged children
•To keep the children off the streets.
•To support local crèches and pre-schools.
•To join hands with parents and crèche owners to give every child the right educational foundation.
•To serve as a feeder for programs that can continue the journey with the children as they progress through school and life
